"This is Ragnarok, isn't it?"

It's Sunday, the last Sunday before the election. Joe and I are out on the front porch drinking coffee and talking about the election.

For those of you who are not familiar with Joe; he's the driver of the armored car that comes by Z-Force Group HQ on Monday and Thursday to pick up receipts. Joe's employer is unaware of his affiliation with us, and we like to keep it that way.

"It's pretty close to that," I replied. "Ragnarok in Norse legend was a pretty messy event. Even the gods get killed. Good gods and bad gods. Thor doesn't survive. It's a really overstated drama. If you read it only as symbolism and not as a flesh and blood event, then you could fit this era's events into that drama. Yeah. Ragnarok. It may be Ragnarok, but it came styled as The War of The Magicians."

"The war of the what??" One of Joe's eyebrows arched up as he said it.

"The War of The Magicians. The drama that is playing out before our eyes is same as it always was, all about politics. Politics is all about power, control, access to resources and people. In primitive days it was tribe against tribe, and the tribe supported these wars because the whole tribe benefited if they were successful. They increased their available land for hunting, access to fishing sites, and more land for agriculture.

"In later centuries, say, most of the Western era, the 'tribes' at war with each other are now groups of obscenely wealthy individuals who use their power and influence to induce their countrymen to go to war against other obscenely wealthy individuals in other parts of the world. England vs. Germany in the First World War is an excellent example. England could not compete against superior German craftsmanship, so they had to be slaughtered. A battle for market share was the driving force.

"From time to time the obscenely wealthy ones induce their countrymen into going to war against under-developed and defenseless people to obtain oil or minerals or whatever. The obscenely wealthy ones, mostly of this country, do this so that they can get there before the obscenely wealthy ones from some other country claim it as their own."

"I know all that," says Joe. "I also know that the OWs [obscenely wealthy, abbreviated for convenience here] don't rely solely on their money or their clever propaganda for success. They get help from unseen sources. They get help from what we call the spirit world. The public face of their interaction with the spirit world is the yearly assembly at the Bohemian Grove."

"Right," I agreed. "That gathering serves more than one purpose. It is a public demonstration of black magic, and it is there to intimidate those of us who practice white magic. To the masses, it appears to be one big party attended by super wealthy individuals. The masses may be enchanted or repelled or attracted to such excess. For those who attend, it is an opportunity to network. For the organizers of the event, it is a reward to their associates for work well done or an opportunity to bring those attendees who are on the fringes of participation into a stronger commitment."

Joe: "The OWs, as wealthy as they are and as much power as they have, they're dominated by higher powers. As the saying goes, 'As above, so below'. The OWs feed on destruction and the emotional response to it. There is no limit. They cannot be satiated. It is the same way with the unseen forces that they have tapped into. Those forces, those dark gods, cannot be satiated, either. And so the OWs have sold their souls. They have no freedom of choice now, no path of self-determination."

"Yep. You're right", I told him. "That's the way it is. As Michael Corleone said to Vincent: 'It's the price you pay for the life you chose.' Sometimes I feel sad for them, but the feeling only lasts for a couple of nano-seconds and then I'm O.K."

Joe was reaching for the coffee pot as he spoke. "This is excellent coffee. I know it comes from Herb's Herb Shop in Klondike. But I can't remember if he gets it from Carjackistan or Darkmenistan."

"I can't remember either!"

Joe was savoring the aroma of the coffee as he spoke. "Those Norse legends were heavy on the drama. I guess it was because they lived life large. Timid little soap opera dramas would not fit in that society. In the final analysis, they were optimists. I looked up the Ragnarok legend on line. The Christian version of the end of the world seems tame by comparison. After it was all over, though, the 'good guys' prevailed and the world was at peace. In the version I read, the aftermath of the event was an idyllic world, filled with abundant supplies. Some of the gods survive, others are reborn. Gods and men live happily together. You think we'll be that lucky with our Ragnarok?"

I refilled my coffee cup and paused to gather my thoughts. I have a story to tell, a vision that I've shared with no one and I needed time to decide if I should share it now. I told all this to Joe as a preface to the story. Then I continued.

"My over-the-event-horizon radar functions very well," I reminded him. "I saw something a couple of months ago, but it didn't seem like it was a radar return. It was very clear, and very brief, an image of this country in the future. A vision, I guess, is what you'd call it. Joe, it was so wonderful that it almost brought tears to my eyes. I went forward in time and saw this country at peace. Peace, Joe. Can you imagine such a thing? I saw a country with no quarrel with the world, a country that minded its own business and didn't try to dominate the world. I saw that the United States had a strong influence over a fairly large geographical area, but it wasn't an influence aimed at domination or exploitation. It was a naturally formed, mutually beneficial, trading area.

"And the whole world was like that, Joe. The world had divided itself into areas of mutually beneficial relations. I thought that this was wonderful and I tried to get a bead on how far into the future I was seeing. At the point in time of my vision, the mutually beneficial associations were a done deal. The sense that I got from this was that it will take 30 to 50 years to manifest. Could be sooner, depending on the level of 'outside' help.

"And yeah, Joe, this era is as close to the legend of Ragnarok as we'll ever see. The Norsemen, I guess that they could sense that the world was dominated by dark forces but they were confident that the dark side could and would be vanquished. So the legend was written in terms that their tribe understood. And if you don't take it too literally, you can see that it--Ragnarok--is playing out just like in the book."

Joe replied with an observation about Norse legends, and then a question about the real life Ragnarok drama that is playing out now. "In the Norse legend, the world goes through a time of terrible destruction. Compared to the Christian end of the world drama, the Christian version looks like Fun With Dick and Jane. Is the large scale destruction we are seeing now, with Hurricane Sandy as the most recent manifestation, is that what we are seeing part of this Ragnarok, our version?"

"My money says that it is, though it may take some time to explain the thinking behind that idea. It's a War of The Magicians now. The dark magicians have been the dominant force on this planet for thousands of years. All life runs in cycles, from the small bean plant in your garden to long period cycles of planetary motions and alignments. The earth is ending a 26,000 year cycle now. It's the big December 2012 event that has been the focus of countless books and speculation and forecasts. The cycle is real enough. The doomsday scenarios, they can be discounted. This cycle is ending, and the stage is being cleared for the next cycle, the next drama or series of dramas, in human experience. The Dark Side, they're toast. Into the ash bin of history with them. They won't 'go gentle into that good night', as the poem goes. We've anticipated for a long time that there would be a scorched earth policy in their [inevitable] retreat. The Light Side, the white magic magicians, they've been with us all along. They've always been around and able to influence events and people on the micro level. The macro, the cosmic level, there were not enough of us. For being in the struggle against the Dark Side, we've paid with our lives countless numbers of times.

"All war is based on deception, as Sun Tzu said. The Dark Side prevailed because of overwhelming numbers and because they were able throughout all history, with rare exceptions, to own and control the opposition to them. Remember in 1984 that Emmanuel Goldstein was the supposed leader of the opposition to Big Brother? He was working for Big Brother. So it was that the various religions, whose purpose was supposedly to fight against evil, were themselves instruments of evil and they tortured and burned individuals and commited genocide on whole populations."

"And they're still doing it," Joe added. The muslim world is all stirred up against each other and the West. There are forces out there trying to stir up the Christian world to fight and fear the muslims. Not much success with that one, so far. The WTC event, that would be part of the Ragnarok scenario, wouldn't it?"

"And the wars that followed. And Katrina. And now Sandy. The dark magicians have gone beyond ritual and blood sacrifice. Now they have access to technology. And it was technology, in the main, that accounted for the existence and effectiveness of Hurricane Sandy. It was a black ops, black magician job, without doubt. It was unseen and unaccountable forces that set the hurricane in motion as a way to discredit Obama for the way he mis-handled the recovery, and/or have an impact on the voting on Tuesday. The power of the dark magicians is on the decline, but keep in mind that even a dying alligator can still kill you with his tail. The white magicians are on the ascendant now, and it is in the realm of magical power that decisive actions are taken. It is there where threats are perceived and blocked. It is there where attacks are the most effective. It plays out in 3-D as perfectly explainable and ordinary events."

Continuing the narrative: "It was magician against magician that determined the outcome of the last two presidential debates and the one vice-presidential debate. It was magician vs. magician that kept Sandy at a Category One hurricane instead of the Category Three that a certain---for the moment un-named---person paid for."

"The floods and the hurricanes and the drought and the wild fires; it was really bad in Texas last year, these are all part of the scorched earth strategy of the Dark Side as it recedes in power. This is them, struggling to hang on to power for every last minute that they can, and more than willing to leave a path of death and destruction behind. The masses will look for explanations, for reasons why these events happened. Most guesses won't even come close."

Joe was silent for a long minute while he pondered over what we'd discussed. "Got any cookies to go with this coffee?"

"Sure do. Stay right there. I'll bring the cookie jar outside."

For the next couple of hours Joe and I tried to make pleasant conversation, but the pressure of the coming election was too much. We kept straying back to that topic. Then he asked about the vision.

"You got any solid events that indicate that your vision might be valid? Anything happening out in the world that reinforces the idea that this world at peace situation will materialize?"

"There are a number of events that support that possibility. I'll have to spend some time doing a compilation of them. Not an easy task. I'll send you an e-mail. But don't look for it until after the election."

The flash of sunlight on the windshield of Joe's Studebaker reminded him that it was time to go.

"Ragnarok ain't so hard to take when you're living in this part of the world", he observed. And he raised his coffee cup in a farewell toast.

"Yep", I responded, as I raised mine in response.

"Gotta get home and feed the moat monsters. Thanks for the coffee and cookies and the stimulating conversation."

With that, he was gone. A minute later I heard the gentle purr of his V-8 Studebaker going down the driveway.
